Food Equality Initiative (FEI) provides a voice for one of the most vulnerable populations. Founded by Emily Brown in 2014, FEI is increasing health and ending hunger for those diagnosed with food allergies and celiac disease. I was honored to have Emily on the podcast to discuss her journey as a food allergy mom and her lived experience of food insecurity. She shared how these struggles ultimately led her to start FEI. Emily also explained the many challenges that food allergy families face at food banks and pantries. We addressed some of the existing flaws in American food programs such as the lack of food options for food allergic individuals. During the episode, listeners will also discover ways to learn about these systemic inequalities. Finally, Emily shared ways to help and support food allergic families heading to food pantries.
